“He is going to be a dictator!!” This is the constant mantra from the Democratic pundits that want you to believe they are true prophets and can see the future. Well, if they can see the future then they should know what happens. So, let’s explore what is needed to become a dictator: First, you need the support of the people, 50% won’t do. Second, you need the support of the military, not just some but all the military. Third, you have to be in a position to enforce closing down the legislative and judicial branches. Fourth, you have to usurp the authority from Congress to suspend Habeus Corpus. Lincoln did that for the states in rebellion but Congress backed him up passing a law that permitted such an action.
To do any of these things you must have the support of the entrenched bureaucracy inside the Departments of Justice, Defense, and Homeland Security.
Trump does not even have the support of all of the Republican Party. He doesn’t have an established cadre of senior military officers who could command the military nor does he have established contacts within senior members of the established bureaucracy most of who vote democratic and are anti-Trump. He certainly cannot undue the judiciary, especially the activist Federal judges who stymied much of his program during his first administration.
How then could he become a dictator? Were there a civil war and everyone took sides perhaps he could rise out of the ashes of that war, but he is far too advanced in age to survive the conflict.
I do not claim to be prophet but I do claim a modicum of common sense and more than a modicum of the knowledge of history and dictators. I fail to see how anyone who claims to have common sense could believe the claim that Trump could somehow become a dictator. Yet I see the same people disregarding the Constitution claiming that the ends justify the means. What they mean is they want their way and they’ll defy the Constitution to get it. Everything resolves to power and those who have it want to keep it and they will do whatever is necessary to destroy their opponents. For them the ends is power and they’ll use whatever means to achieve it. Scaring the public seems to be the tactic they’ve chosen. Such a choice tells us what they believe about the average American citizen and that is they are like a sheep in a herd following along after the others and fearful of sounds in the night. And you know what President Washington warned us about taking on the semblance of sheep, you’ll be slaughtered. Just word to the wise. Don’t be a sheep.
