You know Crow isn’t so bad if you use enough Tabasco. Course it’s hard to prepare, getting those feathers off. I did like I do with dove, just gut, then slice and use your thumbs to push the breast meat out. Kind of gamy but what the hey, I was wrong about Alabama and South Carolina. In fact I think I’ll have to join a whole bunch of people and admit that the Southeastern Conference was not the powerhouse this year it’s been in years previous.
South Carolina just got beat by a better team but old Alabama, let’s see, who goes for it on fourth and four three minutes into a game resulting in a turnover on downs. Who has a quarterback turn the ball over three times in the first quarter and expect to play well? Both answers Alabama. Poorly coached, poorly executed.
If the Alabama QB Milroe doesn’t change to H back or wide receiver he isn’t going to make it in the NFL. He had a man open in the end zone on the last play of the game and threw the ball at least ten yards short.
Of course both teams didn’t look like the teams that played the last games of their respective seasons what with the transfer portal having opened. If you need any more proof that the TP and NIL are a disaster for college football look no further than the CFP and the bowl games. Heck, it looks like Vanderbilt and LSU are the standard bearers for the SEC at this moment in time.
So what should happen? Let’s start with getting rid of the automatic bids for conference champions (Penn State dominated SMU and Boise State). Then best record may just mean an easy schedule like Indiana. For example Army was 12-2 but when they played the big boys they got schooled. And how about Miami QB Cam Ward sitting for the second half after he set a record in the first half? While there may not be an “I” in Team there is certainly an “ME.”
This situation must be driving the odds makers in Vegas crazy. How do you know Ward’s going to sit the second half? And depth, it simply doesn’t exist in the NIL era. Why sit behind somebody making a hundred grand a year when you could get a similar contract at a different school.
I think I’m out of the business of picking teams but I think the entire CFP thing should be taken out of the Bowl system and run like divisions, 1AA, II and III. Only the final game is played at a neutral site like in Frisco, TX where the other NCAA divisions play their final matchups. They use sixteen teams so but they also play a ten game schedule. It would be a lot simpler and you wouldn’t have all the rigamarole associated with the FBS.
That or the big schools just pull out of the NCAA and form a college football association like the NFL. Then we could get rid of all the BS about academics and such. Colleges would buy the best players they could get under a pay cap that would be agreed to by the teams in the association and we’d have a minor league for the NFL. Heck, get the NFL to help finance it. ESPN will chip in some money too. Vegas is always happy to help out on the gambling end of things.
Face it fans. College football as we know it has been dead for a decade and will never come back. School loyalty died just like team loyalty did when the courts created the free agent market.
Let me just chew and swallow this last little bit of crow on my plate. I Should have stewed it with some chicken and vegetables.
Happy New Year and may your professional college team win the championship.
