If I equal my mother’s span of life, 101 years, I am concerned I will die in a United States that has become a collectivist society and economy, for the former will drive the latter in development. The very press of population will cause this change. This is because available natural resources will have been nationalized due to the “inequality” of the use of said resources and rationing will have been implemented by the Federal Government. Because rationing of natural resources will be a Federal program, State boundaries will melt away and local governments will conform themselves to one set of laws that will be drawn up by the Federal now known as Central government. All of this will be “necessitated” by the portioning of natural resources, primarily water, energy and land use.
It goes without saying that the term Federal government becomes an oxymoron since Federal implies the government is comprised of equally represented states but, in truth, the United States will be no more. It will simply be that entity that uninformed foreigners see us as today: America. One America controlled by one central government probably run by one political party of collectivists. It’s a bleak picture for me but that does seem to be the picture being painted by today’s politicians. Centralized control of a collective society by a political party. Anybody read any history books lately? Past is prologue as the man would say. It’s all about the obtaining and wielding of power. See, there’s this human condition aspect of controlling that comes into play. When groups of homo sapiens gather together for safety ( a basic human need) one or more will assert themselves to “be in charge.”
We have a group of politicians who keep telling us there is a threat to democracy and only they can save us. But we aren’t a democracy: We’re a democratic republic. There is a huge difference. Are you aware that no where in the Declaration of Independence, Articles of Confederation or the Constitution of the United States of America is the word democracy used? The first use of the word democracy is actually in the Federalist Papers and there it is defined as the threat it is. Pure democracy is like pure heroin, it will kill. Ask Pericles what de thought about it when the majority decided to throw him out. No, there is no threat to democracy except those who want to exchange our republican form of government for mob rule for that is what democracy is, mob rule. If you need an example read up on the French Revolution. They tried democracy and it resulted in chaos. Shouts of Liberty Fraternity, Equality echoed through the cities and villages while heads (literally) rolled. Great orators gathered followers and the followers followed until there wasn’t any more bread than there had been before and so more heads rolled.
I think these politicians crying wolf about democracy being threatened might take heed of what happened to Robespierre, that most ardent of French democrats. The problem with a true democracy is that you can please some of the people all the time and all the people some of the time but you can’t please all the people all the time. Therein lies the rub, for there is no protection of the minority in a democracy. Majority rules and that, of course leads to resistance and resistance leads to unrest and, well you know the rest. So were I one of the crats running through the streets crying about democracy falling I would be most careful. What is it they say, Be careful for what you wish, you just might get it.
I sometimes wonder just how stupid politicians think we are. Other times, when listening to people afflicted with various political derangement syndromes brought on by over exposure to media, I know how stupid they think we are and Alas, they may be correct enough to destroy the republic and replace it with an authoritarian collectivist state. I hope not.
