Got Under Someone’s Skin

Well, I’ve gotten my first book rating of a “Two.” Never had one of those before. Looks like “Peacock of the CIA” got under somebody’s skin. No verbiage with the rating so the reviewer doesn’t have the intestinal fortitude to say why they “don’t like” the book.

Could it be that writing the truth as fiction strikes a little too close to home for someone? Must be. Ten books and my first “two” and I only have one “three” as well. That from a former pilot commenting on “Flying Blind.” He had a problem with the fact my protagonist was able to reach red line speed in an HH-53 in level flight. He claimed to have flown the aircraft and never approached red line. I suspect he was very much later than I was in the business and he had an older aircraft. I never had any problem pushing the envelope on airspeed. Anyway he liked the book but gave it a three.

I would prefer a rating system that required one to justify their rating. How else can one improve if you don’t get feedback? But in this case I suspect this was just someone who felt the story hit too close to home. Being an author is an interesting undertaking. You can please some of the people some of the time but you can never please all the people any of the time.
